Road to 40 Average
A 6-week structured program to take your game from 30 to 40 average.
Built for players roughly 30–40 three-dart average, across 6 weeks. Run the Gauntlet in Dartsva to confirm your level, then assign this plan and follow guided sessions with fast scoring and progress tracking.
How to
How to train for 30 → 40 average
Turn rough 30 averages into a credible 40: structured weeks, fast scoring in the app, and sessions sized for real life, so you can show up to pub games and local league night with real confidence at the oche, not hope and a prayer.
If you're near a 30 three-dart average, this six-week plan is your clearest path up. Week one is foundation work, entry, scoring structure, grouping, checkouts, and match legs, spread across 3–5 practice days (quality beats cramming every night). From week four onward you add structured 121 finishing and heavier 501 legs as your outshots and setup shots sharpen. The Workouts explained section covers Bob's 27 and other session types in the app. Dartsva guides each session, logs your scoring visits, and helps you rehearse playing under pressure so muscle memory shows up when it counts.

Why this tier matters
Moving from the low 30s toward 40 is about cleaner visits and checkouts that work in real legs, not solo practice heroics.
Six-week program from typical casual level toward a solid 40 three-dart average.
KPIf you're new to structured practice or you've been hovering near a thirty average, Road to 40 is built so each week stays finishable first. I care what actually moves your numbers at the oche, not just that you put the hours in.

6 weeks. 30 minutes a day. From a 30 average to a 40.
Three to five practice sessions a week, each built around 501 legs, checkout ladders, and grouping drills. Your average moves when you do the work.

Workouts explained
Below is the full set of session types you'll see across the six weeks. Week one in the snapshot above is the foundation only, structured 121 finishes land from week four onward. The glossary also explains doubles games like Bob's 27 so you know how they fit the app, even when week one is all basics.
New to terms like fat 20, entry work, or 121? Each game in the app explains the rules and scoring. You'll pick up the vocabulary by playing.
501 & match play
Full legs and 501 vs Bot teach you to score under fatigue, manage playing under pressure, and convert when the leg matters, so pub games and local league nights feel less like a coin flip.
Fat 20 & scoring structure
Sessions on the 20 bed build scoring visits that add up: fewer random 26s, more visits that climb toward consistent tons (100+) as your pattern tightens.
Entry & first dart
Calm grip tension and build a smooth follow-through on dart one, steady stance and posture, unhurried throwing rhythm so you start each visit with confidence at the oche.
Grouping
Grouping work is how you stop pushing the dart and start letting it fly, tighter patterns mean muscle memory you can trust when the crowd is loud.
Checkout practice
Structured finishing reps train outshots and finishing combinations: pattern recognition on doubles plus setup shots that leave clean doubles instead of awkward odd numbers.
121 & structured finishes
Short 121-style games force routes and math under time pressure, great for steel tip or soft tip because the thinking transfers even when target sizes differ slightly.
Bob’s 27 & around the clock
Bob’s 27 is the classic doubles circuit; around-the-clock keeps your throw honest across the board. Road to 40 leans on around-the-clock for light days, you can still open Bob’s 27 anytime in Dartsva when you want pure doubles volume.
Expert tips
Tips for your training plan
Small habits, routine, recovery, gear, mindset, compound like they do in any serious sport. Here’s a sample of what structured practice unlocks.
The biggest gains come from showing up on the same days each week, even two focused sessions beat seven chaotic ones. Schedule practice like a gym session: fixed slots, realistic duration, zero guesswork.
Mix dedicated double work with in-game finishes. If you only drill doubles in isolation, you can still freeze when the leg matters, so plans blend checkout reps with 501 so your brain recognizes real patterns.
Hard sessions need easy days: light around-the-board, short grouping, or full rest. If your arm is cooked, you’re rehearsing bad mechanics, stop early, sleep, and come back fresh.
Use the same darts, stems, and flights you trust in matches. Small changes are fine in the off-season; during a block plan, stability beats experimentation.
Pre-shot routine, one thought per dart, and a reset after a bad visit. Structure in the app keeps you from spiralling into random throws after a miss.
